CURRICULUM VITAE
First and foremost, I'm a
teacher. Currently, I am chair of the
Communication Department at National
University in San Diego, where I teach
courses in Web 2.0, story-making,
strategic communications, mass media,
and journalism.
I am
fortunate enough to teach adult
learners, which gives me a privileged
position from which to watch people
change their lives for the better. It's
the most rewarding work I've ever
undertaken.
All my life, I've also been
a writer and I've had a great run as a
journalist. My work has been
published in print, broadcast, and online. There's
nothing quite like the adrenaline rush
of finding and telling a great story
and, to this day, I always carry a
vidcam in my car and press ID in my
pocket, just in case...
For fun, I make videos about people
and places that I come across in my
wanderings. I like to build special
purpose websites, so most of my
interests have a website attached to
them. I play mandolin, poorly but with
great enthusiasm, on two lovely
instruments that deserve better than my
pathetic scrubbing -- a beautiful
Breedlove and a precious Fender electric
(thanks to my colleague Louis Rumpf who
put a better bridge on it so the action
would be easier).
